How to choose procurement software
Choose procurement software by starting with the job you need done, not the feature list. Most tools fall into three groups: broad source-to-pay suites, intake and orchestration layers that sit over your existing systems, and ERP modules. Each suits a different size of team and starting point.
What are the main kinds of procurement software?
| Kind | What it does | Often suits | Examples |
|---|---|---|---|
| Source-to-pay suites | Sourcing, contracts, purchasing, invoices and payments in one large system | Large enterprises with a programme team | SAP Ariba, Coupa, Ivalua, Zycus |
| Intake and orchestration | A front door and workflow across the systems you already have | Companies that want to keep their ERP and suite | Zip, Levelpath, ORO Labs, Tonkean |
| ERP purchasing modules | Purchase orders and receipts inside your ERP | Teams with simple buying and one ERP | Odoo, ERPNext, Daftra |
These groups overlap, and vendors move between them, so treat this as a starting map.
Where should you start?
- Write down the last ten purchases that went wrong, and why.
- Decide what must change first: requests, sourcing, contracts or invoices.
- Count who will use it: requesters, buyers, approvers, finance and suppliers.
- Ask how it connects to what you already run.
- Run one real request through the shortlist before you sign.
What should you ask every vendor?
- Can I see my own request run through it, end to end?
- What does a supplier have to do, and what does it cost them?
- How long until the first real purchase goes through it?
- Which AI features run in production today, and what can they do without a person?
- How do I get my data out?
- How is pricing built: by seat, by spend or by volume?
What are the common mistakes?
- Buying for the 5% of complex events and neglecting everyday requests.
- Forgetting suppliers until after go-live.
- Treating finance as a separate project, when early payment depends on the same invoice data.
- Accepting a demo on sample data as proof.
Where does Strike SCF fit?

It works in English and Arabic. If you already run a large suite across many countries and it works, an orchestration layer may suit you better. Bring us a real request and judge it for yourself.
